Also, raises have been given once since I’ve been here and there are absolutely no quarterly or annual bonuses.Ģ) I will say that hours are extremely flexible and you get to choose your hours. This is not sustainable long term and is very low in wages compared to cost of living basically everywhere in the US. With that being said, there are a few main things I should point out:ġ) Pay- It is very low for the amount of work and extra duties that are assigned to you. I heard them make inappropriate comments about patients and - more.I do not want to get into too much detail however, I will first start in saying that this job is an okay place to start if you absolutely NEED healthcare experience. Physicians will also try to force you to talk to them and be more "friendly", even if its not your personality, and laugh at their jokes to stroke their ego. They have required monthly "meetings." They make you eat and play games with your co-workers like some kind of forced play date. I took this job because I was desperate for healthcare experience and regret it so much. Promising them time with physicians instead of decent pay. They're taking advantage of people looking for experience in healthcare. Travel time is not included in your hours. After that you're expected to work in Battle Creek occasionally. Not to mention that you get told you'll primarily work in one location, just to get you in the door. It seems suspicious that I got fired out of nowhere. Then you have to do "bedside training" where you're expected to remember all the that someone said to you during the "classroom training." I don't want to pull the "race card" BUT I was the only non-assimilating person of color working for them. It makes it hard to actually learn anything. You're sitting with the "trainer" and a couple new hires and she's just talking at you for hours. The "class room training" is super awkward. They will tell you that you're doing great and you'll even get compliments from the physician on your performance and then you'll get fired out of nowhere. They are extremely fake (especially the people who train you). Overall, I enjoyed my time working with iScribe and I am grateful for the experiences, but I would not recommend it unless you need the clinical experiences.ĭo not work here. There is a lot of room for improvement on management's end here. This company also threatens to write up or fire employees, or throw you under the bus to the physicians if you are unable to make it to a shift to chart for them (which can hurt your ability to get into medical school, many of them are affiliated with the local medical school). Also, the system to receive raises was poor, and it would take excessive amounts of time to recieve any raises (even if you did an excellent job charting, most of it is based on picking up shifts and other random opportunities). There were many bad parts unfortunately. The pay was not good for the amount of work scribes do, and there was no pay differential for working night shift. I gained considerable amount of experience here that helped me move forward with my desired career in medicine. The good part of working here was the clinical experiences, opportunity to meet many physicians, and many wonderful other scribes. If you’re in college for medical fields it’s a great job so please apply if that’s what your after but if you aren’t planning on going to college for medical this isn’t the place for you. Some of the trainers do things very differently from each other so it’s easy to get confused and make mistakes at first, trust your doctor and document what they tell you too. They will also write you up for a call off even if it’s an emergency. You do not get sick time or PTO at all, if you call off and have not gotten your shift covered you are docked points towards your promotion which takes 1000 hours of work just to get, and they only schedule you 16 hours a week. This job is a LOT of work and you have to be perfect as this is a billable medical chart you can not make mistakes. Scribes are doing the charting for the physician and they are payed barely above minimum wage, you will make more money at McDonald’s. This was a great environment to work in for someone wanting to advance into the medical field but you can NOT live off this income.
